چکیده

Among fitted-operator methods for solving one-dimensional singular perturbation problems one of the most accurate is the collocation by linear combinations of {1, x, exp (±px)}, known as tension spline collocation. There exist well established results for determining the ‘tension parameter’ p, as well as special collocation points, that provide higher order local and global convergence rates. However, if the advection–diffusion– reaction problem is specified in such a way that two boundary internal layers exist, the method is incapable of capturing only one boundary layer, which happens when no reaction term is present. For a pure advection-diffusion problem we therefore modify the basis accordingly, including only one exponential, i.e. project the solution to the space locally spanned by {1, x, x, exp (px)} where p > 0 is the tension parameter. The aim of the paper is to show that in this situation it is still possible to construct a basis of C-locally supported functions by a simple knot insertion technique, commonly used in computer aided geometric design. We end by showing that special collocation points can be found, which yield better local and global convergence rates, similar to the tension spline case. Numerical method for singularly perturbed fourth order ordinary differential equations of convection-diffusion type

In this paper, we have proposed a numerical method for singularly perturbed  fourth order ordinary differential equations of convection-diffusion type. The numerical method combines boundary value technique, asymptotic expansion approximation, shooting method and  finite difference method. In order to get a numerical solution for the derivative of the solution, the given interval is divided  in...

A hybrid method for singularly perturbed delay boundary value problems exhibiting a right boundary layer

The aim of this paper is to present a numerical method for singularly perturbed convection-diffusion problems with a delay. The method is a combination of the asymptotic expansion technique and the reproducing kernel method (RKM). First an asymptotic expansion for the solution of the given singularly perturbed delayed boundary value problem is constructed. Then the reduced regular delayed diffe...

Uniformly Convergent 3-tgfem Vs Lsfem for Singularly Perturbed Convection-diffusion Problems on a Shishkin Based Logarithmic Mesh

In the present work, three-step Taylor Galerkin finite element method(3TGFEM) and least-squares finite element method(LSFEM) have been discussed for solving parabolic singularly perturbed problems. For singularly perturbed problems, a small parameter called singular perturbation parameter is multiplied with the highest order derivative term. As this singular perturbation parameter approaches to...

Solving Parabolic Singularly Perturbed Problems by Collocation Using Tension Splines

Tension spline is a function that, for given partition x0 < x1 < . . . < xn, on each interval [xi, xi+1] satisfies differential equation (D − ρiD)u = 0, where ρi’s are prescribed nonnegative real numbers. In the literature, tension splines are used in collocation methods applied to two-points singularly perturbed boundary value problems with Dirichlet boundary conditions. In this paper, we adap...

Galerkin Method for the Numerical Solution of the Advection-Diffusion Equation by Using Exponential B-splines

In this paper, the exponential B-spline functions are used for the numerical solution of the advection-diffusion equation. Two numerical examples related to pure advection in a finitely long channel and the distribution of an initial Gaussian pulse are employed to illustrate the accuracy and the efficiency of the method. Obtained results are compared with some early studies.
